England and Wales Drawn in the Same Group for 2027 Rugby World Cup Down Under

Draw event for the 2027 tournament
The group draw was conducted by rugby legends such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side together with their Welsh counterparts will face off in the same pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a highly-anticipated pool stage encounter in the tournament Down Under. Completing the group in Pool F by Tonga and Zimbabwe.

This draw recalls their memorable clash in the group phase of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at England's home ground played a part in the hosts' surprise early exit.

Other Notable Pool Pairings

Ireland and the Scots have likewise been drawn in a group together, just as the situation from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, they claimed a convincing win, with their opponents failing to progress to the quarter-finals.

Los Teros and Os Lobos, both impressed as underdogs in the last World Cup, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of these two groups cannot meet defending champions and top-ranked South Africa before the showpiece match, assuming the South Africans top their assigned pool.

Knockout Ramifications

Should the groups conclude in line with the current global standings, other leading contenders like New Zealand and France would remain separated from the likes of England and the Irish until the final.

Under those circumstances, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on the same side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Fixture

Tournament hosts Australia find themselves together with their great rivals and triple champions New Zealand in Pool A.

The Wallabies will open the World Cup in Perth on 1 October 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at launch the competition.

Elsewhere, holders South Africa have drawn the Azzurri, the Lelos and the Oaks. The French team are grouped with Japan, future hosts the USA and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Los Pumas will face the Flying Fijians, Spain and Canada as the tournament grows to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in 2023.

This edition will feature a round of 16 stage for the very first time in Rugby World Cup history.

While the victor of England and Wales's group may avoid some of the game's biggest beasts early on, they will meet the runner-up from Group B – most likely Italy – in the last 16.

Four of the other six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the pool stages.
